An early photograph of the Holcombs.  The photograph was taken around 1908 and probably somewhere in Texas.

Paul and Annie were adopted by the Holcombs - the children were not blood relations.   Family stories say that Annie had two natural siblings and all three were about to be adopted, but their grandparents decided to keep two of the children; Annie was not included.  The Holcombs discovered this and decided to adopt Annie.
